The Last Girl in the Game: Interview with Gutshot.com About Final Woman in Main Event, Tiffany Williamsen

Carrie Kravetz

August 8th, 2005

Carrie conducted this interview before the beginning of the final three tables at Binion’s a few weeks back.

Pokertrails (PT): So how did Tiffany get here?

Answer (A): She came to the Gutshot poker room in London for the first time. And through 10 pounds, she won a chance to play a satellite competition. She turned up for that and finished fourth. For fourth she won the chance to come to Vegas, with her accommodation and flight paid and play in a thousand dollar satellite, which she won.

PT: Where is she originally from in the states?

A: Columbia, South Carolina. But I’ll have to check. She’s been in England, now, for four years. She’s a lawyer. Anyway, she won her way over here to play the World Series [Main Event], and its been a bit of a roller coaster since then, really. It’s amazing for us. We’re a club, we’ve only been open like 18 months. We were an information website, and then we opened our own card room, because in London, there was only one other poker room. So from the feedback we got from the site and the members we had, we opened our own card room. We’ve got over 5,000 members now. It’s taken off really well. And Tiffany’s like our flagship, really. We actually brought over 25 members. She’s the only one left now. She’s got most of the other guys, and I spoke to a guy yesterday, and they’ve extended their flights to stay here and support her. Yeah, it’s a great story for us.

PT: So she’s not a pro, just a lawyer…

A: And she plays online. And the only other place she’s played is at the Gutshot club. She’s never played in anything over 10 pounds, I mean 20 dollar competitions is her normal limit.

PT: What do you think makes her such a great player?

A: Naivety, I think is one thing. I’ve been playing for many years now, I think that this would probably get to me, because this is something I would have loved, I’ve never played in the world series main events, I’ve played in a couple of the other events, and I would have loved to have done this. And I think it would really faze me, and I don’t think it is with her, not one bit.

PT: I saw her a few days ago, and she looked so calm.

A: The first emotion I saw in days was last night when she hit a miracle card and she doubled up to two million chips. She had two million. Wait, I’m telling a lie…it was 1,992,000. But I believe she’s over two million now.

PT: So she was the first woman to ever get one million chips at the WSOP Main Event?

A: Yeah, and last night it was two million.

PT: That’s amazing. I hope she continues to do well.

A: She’s the last woman in this competition, as well, which, in itself, will give her a lot of coverage. I don’t think she’s really great with the coverage. She’s quite focused. We, at Gutshot… every player we ever interviewed, of our own players, have always gone out an hour or two. So we do live video interviews on our website. But we haven’t done Tiffany yet. We’re waiting. We had a poll on the site, and the members said don’t interview her until she finishes; we don’t want to give her bad luck. So a lot of people are asking what’s happening with her? We, obviously, yeah we give information, but we haven’t given her an interview, as of yet.
