A field of 624 players paid $215 for UltimateBet.com's weekly 120k Guarantee tournament. For the second consecutive week the tournament met the 600 entrants required to cover the 120k guarantee, so the total prize pool was $124,800. The top 70 places paid, but only the following ten players still had a shot at the $29,328 first prize (chip counts in parenthesis):
Seat 1: Dirky66 (110,815)
Seat 2: Bigman318 (163,780)
Seat 3: Parlay17 (107,145)
Seat 4: Hoss_TBF (82,040)
Seat 5: AceNick (96,130)
Seat 6: RoxciRhodes (122,480)
Seat 7: lboking (59,525)
Seat 8: hb45 (112,040)
Seat 9: homer07 (231,240)
Seat 10: mxfern (474,805)
After coming to the final table with a substantial chip lead, mxferns run of good fortune continued on the very first hand. With the blinds at 4k-8k, the action was folded to mxfern who raised to 20k. All folded to Hoss_TBF in the small blind, who went all-in for a little over 80k. The big blind folded, and mxfern quickly called, showing pocket aces which were way ahead of Hoss_TBFs A-T offsuit. No miracles came for Hoss_TBF, and he was eliminated in tenth place and won $1,248. It was another impressive showing by Hoss_TBF, who won the PokerStars.com 350k Guarantee a few weeks back.
Continuing to put himself in the middle of the action, mxfern tangled with homer007 in another key pot just a few hands later. The action was folded to homer007 in the small blind, and he made a minimum raise to 16k. mxfern called the raise, and both players saw a 3s-Js-8s flop. homer007 checked to mxfern, who fired out a 30k bet. homer007 check-raised to 90k, and just as quick, mxfern re-raised all-in. After a brief pause, homer007 called and saw his pocket queens were well behind mxferns flopped flush with 5s-2s. Luckily for him though, he had a redraw with his Qs, and when the 7s hit on the river, homer007 had won a huge 373k pot.
In the big blind with only 26k left, AceNick called Parlay17s all-in bet with A-6 offsuit, which was behind Parlay17s pocket tens. The flop came down king high, but with two diamonds giving AceNick a backdoor flush draw with his Ad. The turn was the 10d, giving Parlay17 a set but also giving AceNick the nut flush draw. A diamond hit the river, but it was the Kd, which paired the board and gave Parlay17 a full house (tens full of kings). AceNicks flush was no good, and he finished in ninth place for a pay out of $2,184.
The very next hand, Dirky66 pushed his last 98k into the pot, and once again it was Parlay17 holding pocket tens with a chance to eliminate a player. Dirky66 showed Ac-Qc, which gave him two over cards and some flush possibilities. The flop came down 2c Jc 8h, giving Dirky66 even more outs, and when the Kc hit the turn, Parlay17 was drawing dead to Dirky66s nut flush. Amazingly, Parlay17 was now back to about the same amount of chips he started with before he picked up tens on back-to-back hands.
A few hands later, Parlay17s wild final table came to an end when he called mxferns all-in from the big blind. Mxfern showed pocket jacks, which were well out ahead of Parlay17s A-7 offsuit. Both players anxiously waited as the flop came down 5h-8h-5s, which was no help to Parlay17. The 6h on the turn gave Parlay17 some hope with an open-ended straight draw, and when the 9h hit the river, it looked like he might have hit his miracle straight. To Parlay17s dismay however, the 9h put four hearts on the board, giving mxfern the flush with his Jh. An 8th place finish and $3,120 would have to do for Parlay17.
Bigman318 was unfortunate to have his pocket kings run into lbokings pocket aces, which doubled lboking up, and left Bigman318 short stacked. A few hands later after mxfern has minimum raised to 32k from the button, Bigman318 pushed his last 92k into the pot with pocket eights. mxfern called, and was happy to see he had two over cards with his Qh-Jh. A jack on the flop vaulted mxfern into the lead, and after no help on the turn or river, Bigman318 was eliminated in seventh place, which was good enough for $4,368.
After Bigman318s exit, mxfern tried to bully the table but had players coming back over the top of him, causing him to fold. Suddenly, the one time chip leader was now one of the shorter stacks with only 95k. Once again after mxfern had opened the pot to 32k, RoxciRhodes went over the top of him for her last 88k. Probably not liking his hand too much anymore, mxfern was forced to call and showed As-6s, which was behind RoxciRhodes A-7 offsuit. Unfortunately for Roxci, two spades hit the flop, and when the 3s hit the turn, she was drawing dead. A tough beat, but a good night for RoxciRhodes who finished in sixth place and won $5,616
Finally with the blinds at 10k-20k, mxferns luck came to an end. With his one time chip lead gone and with only 170k in chips, mxfern raised to 40k from the button. The small blind folded, and then lboking went all-in, which in reality was putting mxfern all-in. Without much delay, mxfern called, but was dismayed to see his Ad-2d was well behind lbokings As-9s. Neither hand improved on the flop, and lbokings 9 kicker held up, eliminating mxfern in fifth place. After having the lead for a good deal of the final table, mxfern would have to be satisfied with $6,864.
Now with the chip lead, Dirky66 raised to 60k from the button. With only a little over 200k left and the short stack at the table, homer007 pushed all-in from the big blind. After a long pause, Dirky66 called with K-T offsuit, which was behind homer007s A-J offsuit. The door card was a king however, and after no help on the turn or river, homer007 was knocked out in fourth place. A disappointing finish, but an $8,424 pay out hopefully helped ease homer007s pain.
Down to three players, Dirky66 has a commanding chip lead of almost three-to-one, but that lead would soon vanish. First hb45 doubled up through Dirky66, when he his Qs-8s caught a queen on the turn to trump Dirky66s pocket fives. Shortly after that hand and with Dirky66s lead down to a scant 100k, lboking was able to win a huge pot and cripple Dirky66. Dirky66 had limped in on the small blind, and then called lbokings raise to 100k. Both players saw a Kd-Ks-9d flop, and Dirky66 quickly checked. Lboking fired out a 100k bet, and after a pause, Dirky66 went all-in over the top of lboking for the rest of his chips. lboking beat him into the pot and showed K-3 offsuit, which was far ahead of Dirky66s A5 offsuit. The board paired nines on the turn, giving lboking the full house and crippling Dirky66.
Showing his competitive spirit, Dirky66 was able to double up a few times and was back up to 350k when the following hand came up. With the blinds at 15k-30k, lboking folded on the button making it a battle of the blinds. Hb45 raised to 60k from the small blind, and Dirky66 smooth called. The flop came down Ts-Jc-2d, and hb45 immediately bet out 70k. Dirky66 continued his aggressive play and went all-in, putting the pressure on hb45 since he had him slightly covered. After using almost all of his time, hb45 made an amazing call with A-8 offsuit, which too the surprise of all, was ahead of Dirky66s Q-7 offsuit. Hb45 had caught Dirky66 in a complete bluff, and after no help came on the turn or river, Dirky66 was left with just 80k in chips.
The very next hand Dirky66 pushed the last of his chips in from the small blind with K-8 offsuit and was called by lboking in the big blind. Unfortunately for Dirky66, lboking had him dominated with an A-8 offsuit. An ace appeared on the flop, and Dirky66 was eliminated in third place with a nice cash of $12,168.
Before Dirky66 could probably even exit the room, we had our winner. The very next hand after Dirky66s exit, lboking raised from the small blind to 96k. hb45 re-raised to 162k, and immediately lboking went all-in over the top of hb45. Since lboking had hb45 covered, this was in fact putting hb45 all-in. Without as much thought as you’d expect with that kind of money on the line, hb45 called and showed Ks-9s, which he was happy to see were both over cards against lbokings pocket eights. The flop brought no help for hb45, nor did the turn, and when an 8 hit the river, hb45 was eliminated in second place for a pay out of $18,408.
After coming to the final table as the short stack, lboking put on a great performance to take this week’s tournament, and win the $29,328 first prize.
