PokerStars.com World Championship of Online Poker Event #2 - $200 (rebuys) Pot-Limit Omaha $200k Guaranteed

Jon Eaton

September 5th, 2005

A field of 973 players entered yesterday’s $200 with rebuys Pot-Limit Omaha tournament. The $200k guarantee once again would be smashed, as a total of 935 rebuys and 590 add-ons made the official prize pool a whopping $499,600-and this isn’t even a Hold ‘Em event! 81 placed would be paid, but only the final nine had a shot at the $124k and the gold bracelet (chip counts in parenthesis):

Seat 1: Rabscuttle (441,530)
Seat 2: bugsen (868,092)
Seat 3: epokerman (230,814)
Seat 4: Siegel (541,299)
Seat 5: #1PEN (302,264)
Seat 6: MR32 (1,200,922)
Seat 7: bogg (335,508)
Seat 8: osten (1,013,417)
Seat 9: PokerMillion (1,606,154)

It wouldn’t take long for our first elimination. With the blinds at 10k-20k, epokerman pushed all-in for 200k in chips. Siegel did the re-raise all-in and no one else wanted the action. epokerman showed Ah 6h Ac Ts and Siegel held the Ad Kd As 7c. Unfortunately there would be no chop as Siegel flopped a flush draw and made it on the turn, eliminating epokerman in ninth place. He took home $7,743.80 for his efforts.

Chips would get traded around quite fast at this table. A lot of short stacks doubled up early and staved off elimination. bugsen, not on a short stack, wouldn’t survive like those who went all-in before him. After PokerMillion opened for 60k, he re-raised to 200k. PokerMillion made it 620k, and bugsen went all-in for 808k total, which was called.

bugsen showed Kc Ks Qs Jc, and PokerMillion held As 7s Ah 2d. The flop was 9c Qd 9d, giving bugsen a small piece of the flop. He could win with any queen or ten, or running clubs. The turn was the Ad, which didn’t help him at all and left him drawing dead. For eighth place, bugsen cashed out for $11,990.40.

Siegel would take a huge chunk out of PokerMillion’s massive stack a few hands later. The two put in 135k pre-flop, and then got all of Siegel’s chips in the middle on the Ts 6d 4d flop. Siegel had a king high flush draw and PokerMillion held bottom two pair. The diamond on the turn did it and no full house appeared for PokerMillion. The nearly two-million chip pot was shipped to Siegel.

Amazingly, the two would clash just a few rounds later. With the blinds at 15k-30k, Siegel opened for 105k and Poker Million defended his big blind. The flop was Qh 8c 7c and PokerMillion check-raised Siegel’s 250k bet to 900k. Siegel raised PokerMillion’s last 300k-plus and was called. Siegel held 7d 9c Th 8h for a straight draw and two pairs, but PokerMillion had a big lead with Qd Qs 5d 6h for top set. An ace and king fell on the turn and river and PokerMillion scooped in a 2.8m chip pot.

The very next pot, PokerMillion finished him off. He called out of the small blind the 105k bet from Siegel, and then bet Siegel’s last 224k on the Kc 2h 6h flop. Siegel called and showed Jh Th 9s 8s for a flush draw and a few backdoor straight draws, but PokerMillion had Kh Qd Jd 4d for a pair, which was slightly ahead at this point. The 8d on the turn gave Siegel some outs, but a meaningless 3d fell on the river, eliminating him in seventh place, earning $16,986.40.

bogg would go down in sixth, just moving up the ladder in prize money most of the final table. He called his last 10k pre-flop after PokerMillion raised and MR32 called. The two players checked it down, then a small bet and call was made on the river. MR32 held kings and threes and PokerMillion had kings and sevens. The small pot went to PokerMillion when bogg mucked his hand and took his $21,982.40 prize.

Rabscuttle would keep things moving as he went all-in against PokerMillion. Rabuscuttle held the Qd Qh Th Ts, and PokerMillion showed Ad Ks 9c 8c. The flop hit them both, coming 9d 5h Jd. PokerMillion was still far behind, but the 8h made it interesting on the turn-now PokerMillion had four outs to win the hand against Rabscuttle’s made queen-high straight. The knife in the heart was delivered to Rabscuttle when the 8s fell on the turn. For fifth place, he pocketed $26,978.

When osten opened for 140k in the 20k-40k level, #1PEN pushed all 429k all-in. osten called for his last 276k all-in. osten held the Ah 6s Ts Jd and #1PEN held Ad Ks 5d Kh. The board read 9s Jh 9h Qh 7s, and #1PEN’s kings held up. osten took fourth place and walked away with $32,474.

#1PEN would experience similar pain just a short while later. With a set of tens against MR32’s aces and tens, he watched helplessly as a runner-runner flush appeared for MR32. #1PEN would receive $44,964 for third place.

Lee Jones, the PokerStars.com poker room manager, made an error in giving numbers for a three-way chop, which resulted in the three players not agreeing to a chop at that time. When they got heads-up, after a pot that swung the chip lead from PokerMillion to MR32, they agreed to a fifty-fifty chop with 10k as per PokerStars.com rules left on the table. They would both receive $92,422, and would play on for $10,000 cash and the coveted WCOOP gold bracelet.

After trading blinds and a few moderate-sized pots, they finally got all of their chips in the middle before the flop. MR32 was covered, and held Ad Qc 6s 7d. PokerMillion had the 4h 5c Kh Ah. The flop was mixed emotions for both, coming 5h 5d 3d. PokerMillion had trip fives, but was up against the nut flush draw. MR32’s gut shot draw was bad because the four would fill up PokerMillion.

The 6d rolled off next, giving the lead to MR32. A meaningless Js fell on the river, and the six-million-chip pot was shipped to MR32. PokerMillion doubled up in a small 700k pot the next hand with sevens and sixes against a pair of fours. The next hand would prove to be his last, however.

In a limp pot, they got all their chips in on the 2h 7d 6c flop. PokerMillion held 8h 2c 8s 9s for an over-pair and a straight draw. MR32 showed 9d 7s 7c 4h for a set of sevens. The six on the turn filled him up and left PokerMillion needing an eight on the river to survive. He didn’t get one of his two outs and went out in second place.

MR32 received the $10,000 cash and the WCOOP bracelet for his efforts. Here are the final results:

1st - MR32 $102,422 (based on heads-up even split)
2nd - PokerMillion 92,422 (based on heads-up even split)
3rd - #1PEN 44,964
4th - osten 32,474
5th - Rabscuttle 26,978
6th - bogg 21,982
7th - Siegel 16,986
8th - bugsen 11,990
9th - epokerman 7,743
